The Painter of Trees
Suzanne Palmer
I read only The Painter of Trees, by Suzanne Palmer. At the beginning, this seems a very straightforward story of colonization and of leaders who describe themselves as cogs in a gear, who are determined to look only forward, never back. The difference between progressives and conservatives is smaller than it seems.
The story ends with a twist that I didn't see coming, that throws some doubt into ones understanding of what happened. But there is no question of the tragedy.
