The Hemlock Queen
Hannah Whitten
I don't like writing long negative reviews, so I will keep this brief. Hannah F. Whitten's The Hemlock Queen is the second book in a projected trilogy: The Nightshade Crown. About the first book I wrote
There was not enough of a plot to grip my interest. However, I plan to continue reading the series. Hannah Whitten leaves us well-positioned for a continued story. And now that the world-building is mostly done, I anticipate a faster pace in the next books.
That did not happen. The Hemlock Queen has even less of a plot than The Foxglove King. What plot there is consists almost entirely of long, agonizingly awkward conversations. Eventually the awkward conversations give way to hot heavy sex scenes, which somehow manage to be even more painful to read.
And since this is only the second book in a trilogy, we end with no resolution. I will not be reading the third.
